Talvorik Armenians (late 19th century).
Talvorik is a small subregion of Sasun, consisting of seven villages isolated in the mountains. The Talvorik Armenians were known for their indomitable militancy.
The men of this region wore elaborate costumes and carried numerous weapons—rifles, sabers, daggers, and axes.
The illustration also shows a reconstruction of a typical local dwelling—a fortified tower, which served as the equivalent of a small castle. Typically three-story, it housed both utility and living quarters. This type of structure was actively used for defensive purposes.
